Alentejo region is demarcated by countless plots of vines inserted in the great extent of its plains. The soils are composed of xisto, clay, marble, granite and limestone, an unusual diversity. The Mediterranean climate, with strong continental influence is hot and dry.
Alentejo region is subdivided into eight regions, which are: “Borba”, “Évora”, “Redondo” and “Reguengos” highlight references in fresh and fruity Alentejo wines, valued for its balance, energy, harmony and smoothness. The sub-regions of Granja-Amareleja, Moura and Vidigueira, South denomination, offer more warm and soothing wines, with poor and dry lands where the vineyards suffer with the harshness of the climate and the soil poverty.
In white varieties we have “Antão Vaz”, “Arinto” and “Roupeiro”, references in white Alentejo wines. In red varieties stand out “Alfrocheiro”, “Alicante Bouschet”, “Aragonez”, “Castelão” and “Trincadeira”.
